Mashed potatoes constitute another one of those recipes where the payoff is unreasonably disproportional to the effort required in the best possible way. I also presents an amazing opportunity to plug and play new flavours. Want cheese in that? Done. Feel like spicing it up? Nae bother. Craving tuna, pork, chicken, sausages or _ tonight? Mashed Potatoes have got you covered. This is dreamdish 101 people.
Serves 1
Ingredients
- Three potatoes
- Salt & Pepper
- Butter
Get Ready
- Potato masher [If you’re not on that fully stocked kitchen life thats fine. Any mashing implement will do]
- Peeler
- Pot
Method
- Peel your potatoes and cut them up into large chunks. Set a pot of salted water to boil.
- Add the potatoes and let them cook for 15 min. But which point they should be tender enough to easily break with a fork.
- Drain the water, add as much butter, salt and pepper as you like and mash the potatoes smooth.
- Revel in the knowledge that twas you who brought this buttery flavour cloud into the world. A few tears are expected.
Note: Some might be wondering why this, unlike many mashed potato recipes, does not include cream. In my opinion its much like adding milk to your scrambled eggs. You could but it doesn’t actually make much of a difference and when you think about it hard enough you’ll realise that its just straight up weird.
