Crispy round the edges. Custardy in the middle. I personally consider it a blessing that such a thing of beauty also happens to have one of the cheapest, easiest and quickest recipes possible. If you’ve already got bread, milk and eggs please go out and get cinnamon so you can join the rest of us in being truly happy.
Serves 1
Ingredients
- Two Thick Slices of Dry White Bread*
- 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract**
- 1/4 Cup of Milk***
- Maple Syrup
- 1/2 Teaspoon Cinnamon
- 2 Teaspoons Sugar
- 1 Egg
*To really get it right you’re going to need slices at least 1/2″ thick. All the pinterest photos telling you a paper thin slice isn’t going to turn soggy, squishy slice of sad are lying
**If you’re a regular barely functioning human being who doesn’t happen to have vanilla extract lying around its fine. We can do without.
***Whole milk please. Lets not try to deceive ourselves that this is a diet recipe.
Get Ready
- Frying Pan
- Fork or whisk
- Bowl
Method
- Beat egg, vanilla and cinnamon in bowl then stir in milk.
- Dip the bread in the mixture, coating one side then the other. Please don’t soak it till it disintegrates. Two quick dips will do.
- Add a splash of oil or stick of butter to a pan on medium heat. Add the slices when the oil/butter has heated up and give them about 1.5min on each side.
- Flip the slices onto a plate and grace them with the amber kiss of maple syrup. Regale yourself with the sweet whispers of the cherubs as they drift through your open window drawn by the deep aroma of fresh ambrosia.
