Bacon Cheeseburger

The bacon cheeseburger is a staple in the life of any student who wants to eat like a king but can’t afford a crown. With the advent of the Sainsbury’s 4×454g beef burger pack for £2.50 we stepped into an era where burgers could once again be categorised as dirt cheap. Praise Jesus.

Pre-Step

If you’re interested in making this a world class burger a little love is going to have to go into the buns. People don’t ever give that much thought to the buns but they can make or break your meal. Butter them and stick them in the oven for a good two minutes to let them toast up. Thank me later. Preferably in cash.

Method

  1. Toss the strips of bacon into the pan then turn it up to high heat. No need to add oil; the bacon will release its own grease as it heats up. When it starts to buckle and curl flip the strips. Keep flipping the bacon so its browns evenly and take it out when it looks nice and crispy. Don’t throw away the grease.
  2. Take the patty and salt and pepper both sides. Add paprika too if you have any. Not just a few pinches. Use enough to lightly coat both sides and give that meat a good ol’ rub.
  3. Place the burger in the bacon greased pan. Give it 4min on both sides. Add the cheese to the top of the burgers during the last minute of cooking so it can melt.
  4. Lift the burger out of the pan and onto the bottom bun. Arrange the bacon strips on top of the cheese, add mayo and ketchup as you like, and close it with the top bun. Drop to your knees and praise the Lord for letting you live long enough to see this day. Best served with the barely veiled envy of your flatmates.

NB: I guess if you were concerned with your lifespan or some nonsense along those lines you could also add some greens to the topping, but lets be real here. Three leaves of lettuce and a sprig of rocket isn’t going to change the fact that this is burger dripping grease and adorned with cheese and bacon. If you wanted to keep your arteries clear you would have searched for a salad recipe. Case Closed.
