Rice is an amazing thing. I love rice. It’s just so easy. You can eat it with anything. You can get the stuff off amazon for 5kg per £5. What more could any sane person want. Here is my trick to making 100% perfect rice every single time forever.
Pre-Step
Please, please, please always wash the rice first. Its really simple and guarantees you get white, fluffy rice by getting rid of all the shitty starch. Just pour as many cups as you’re willing to eat (2 per serving) into a sieve, run it under a cold tap and stir the rice in circles with your fingers or rub it gently between your palms to loosen the starches. You can wash it in a pot as well, but don’t expect the water to become clear. After a wash or two it’ll just get a bit less murky.
Preparation
- Buy a rice cooker
- Unpack the rice cooker
- Follow the instructions
Note: Seriously though rice cookers are the best guys. You can get one for £30 and it’ll feed you every day till you die. Please consider picking up one.
Now for the heathens who aren’t interested in 100% perfect rice every single time forever
Preparation
- Boil the water (using a kettle will do this faster). Pour water (for every 1 cup of rice, use 1 cups of water) into a large saucepan with a tight-fitting lid that’s already on a hot hob/lighted stove. Mix 1/2 tablespoon salt per cup of water into the water.
- Pour in the rice.
- Stir once, or just enough to separate the rice.
- Cover the pot and simmer. Be sure the lid fits tightly on the pot. Turn down the heat to its lowest setting. Let rice simmer for about 18 minutes, then remove from heat and allow the rice to steam in the pot for another 5 minutes.
- Fluff rice with a fork and serve.
